2010 Vancouver Olympic Mascots

  • Miga — a snowboarding sea-bear inspired by the First Nations’ legends of the Pacific Northwest. Miga, described as mischievous and outgoing, is part sea-bear and part orca whale.
  • Quatchi — a shy and gentle Sasquatch with a long brown beard and blue earmuffs meant to conjure the mystery and wonder associated with Canada’s wilderness.
  • Sumi — an animal guardian spirit, who flies with the wings of the thunderbird, is described as “a natural born leader with a passion for protecting the environment.”

Personally I don’t like them, they don’t have a Canadian feel to them at all. They look like Japanese cartoons to me. The identities of the new mascots were a highly guarded secret until Tuesday. Most Canadians thought the mascots would be a moose, maple leaf, hockey puck, beaver, Canada goose etc.

What do you think?

Food Signatures, what do you think?

I received this by e-mail today and thought it was worth sharing. I have read about this before:

A stupendous insight of civilizations past has now been confirmed by today’s investigative, nutritional sciences. They have shown that what was once called “The Doctrine of Signatures” was astoundingly correct.

It now contends that every whole food has a pattern that resembles a body organ or physiological function and that this pattern acts as a Signal or sign as to the benefit the food provides the eater.

Here is just a short list of examples of Whole Food Signatures.

A sliced Carrot looks like the human eye. The pupil, iris and radiating lines look just the human eye and science now shows that carrots greatly enhance blood flow to and function of the eyes.

A Tomato has four chambers and is red. The heart is red and has four Chambers. All of the research shows tomatoes are indeed pure heart and blood food.

Grapes hang in a cluster that has the shape of the heart. Each grape looks like a blood cell and all of the Research today shows that grapes are also profound heart and blood vitalizing food.

A Walnut looks like a little brain, a left and right hemisphere, upper Cerebrums and lower cerebellums. Even the wrinkles or folds are on the nut just like the neocortex. We now know that walnuts help develop over 3 dozen neurotransmitters for brain function.

Kidney Beans actually heal and help maintain kidney function and yes, they look exactly like the Human kidneys.

Celery, BokChoy, Rhubarb and more look just like bones. These foods specifically target bone strength. Bones are 23% sodium and these foods are 23% sodium. If you don’t have enough sodium in your diet the body pulls it from the bones, making them weak. These foods replenish the skeletal needs of the body.

Eggplant, Avocados and Pears target the health and function of the womb and cervix of the female, apparently they look just like these organs. Today’s research shows that when a woman eats 1 avocado a week, it balances hormones, sheds unwanted birth weight and prevents cervical cancers. And how profound is this? It takes exactly 9 months to grow an avocado from blossom to ripened fruit. There are over 14,000 photolytic chemical constituents of nutrition in each one of these foods (modern science has only studied and named about 141 of them).

Figs are full of seeds and hang in twos when they grow. Figs increase the motility of male sperm And increase the numbers of sperm as well to overcome male sterility.

Sweet Potatoes look like the pancreas and actually balance the glycemic index of diabetics.

Olives assist the health and function of the ovaries.

Grapefruits, Oranges, and other Citrus fruits look just like the mammary glands of the female and actually assist the health of the breasts and the movement of lymph in and out of the breasts.

Onions look like body cells.Todays research shows that onions help clear waste materials from all of the body cells. They even produce tears which wash the epithelial layers of the eyes.

Bananas, Cucumber, Zucchini and more target the size and strength of the male sexual organ.

Peanuts have a profound effect on the testicles and sexual libido. Most people don’t realize that arginine, the main component of Viagra, comes from peanuts.

I’ve gone and done it

I will be arriving at your blog via Satellite from now on. I got so mad at being disconnected so many times and waiting and waiting for pages to load that my husband growled from his armchair “Just go do it”, so I did. I hope I can visit you all now more frequently and that my waiting time will be much less.

So that is my Christmas present this year to myself, but it is to hubby as well as he hated the noise of the dial up it bothered his hearing aids, and he had to listen to my sighs of frustration. So now all should be OK in internet land, right, I hope so.

Thanks everyone for coming to visit even though I would not visit you often times as your pages took so long to load. I think it takes a little while for the satellite to stabilize but then I should be whipping along. Now send all your love to Jeni because she would like a faster service too and if we all send good internet wishes maybe that dream might come to pass.

Heads or Tails #14 – Mark

Skittles started a meme every Tuesday called Heads or Tails, basically she provides a word and we can interpret it however we like. This week it is Mark

I had difficulty with this one until I remember a person from my days in Fort St. John. This was about 24 years ago. This is a very simplified story.

Mark was a drunk, a homeless person, dirty, disheveled and unhappy. A man named Jim, a rough and ready biker had found him and prayed with him to become a Christian. It took a little while but slowly Mark changed, he completely turned his life around and now I understand he is a pastor working with homeless people in the far North. What God can do when we are willing is amazing.

Frustrated with Windows

I have been trying to set up Facebook for photos but was told I needed to download some Java thingy, my computer just won’t do it. Then I tried Windows Live and it hung up too. I did the recommended things like clear my temporary files and even turned off my firewall but still neither would work. I have been two evenings just messing about with this stuff.

I have been trying to set up a Family space and my eldest son already uses Facebook so I thought that would be a logical choice for all of us but not so. Second suggestion was to use Windows Live but that didn’t work so I ended up with faithful old Blogger. I have looked around for other Family type web pages and haven’t liked any so reverted to what I know. Now I hope they think to post something once in a while, just to keep their Mom in the loop.

I can’t think of anything to blog about I need inspiration

Having blog block right now but I like to try and blog each day so I have taken a few pictures to talk about.

Yesterday I mentioned MyCorkboard which is quite fun and I like it better than a regular screensaver so I have been playing with it today, between doing my walking, I have done nearly 9,000 steps today, my pedometer tells me. Here is a picture of what I have done so far on MyCorkboard.

I have added pictures of my three sons and grandson. The one on the top right is my eldest and he is the cartoonist. The little picture beside him is with his son. The bottom right is my middle son, the business man, he currently is working on developing his own online business and works for an insurance company to pay the rent. The one on the left is the youngest, he is learning different trades, currently a dry waller. He was going into 3D animation but did not want to incur the university debt so is doing that on his own, as a hobby, he is quite good at it my eldest son says. We are desperate for trades people in Canada so he will never be short of work.

You can add sticky notes to your cork board and even print them off. A variety of clocks and other knick knacks, even a timer that tells you it is time to take a break. I have added a bunch more things since I took the picture. You can set it to start going fuzzy and breaking up after so many minutes or it can switch to a screen saver you have on your computer. I think it is quite good. They have lots of stuff to download to play with.

Here is a picture of the solarium now finished, or at least just a few little bits to be done next summer. Hubby has been fly tying in there and doing a jig saw as well so it is getting used. I kept a petunia going to just the other day to see how long I could keep flowers in there. As long as they don’t get frost on them they seem to go a long time, even though we only heat the room when we want to use it. We open the sliding door for a while and it really doesn’t take that long for it to warm up and we have a kerosene heater also to give it a boost.
The roof is clear but we had a dump of snow again last night so it is covered now, but we still get a lot of light in there which is really important right now as it is quite dark here all day. We have the electric light on until about 10am and then it goes on again about 3pm because we are in the north we have very short days. I am looking forward to when the days draw out again. The black bears are all asleep now, although the grizzly are still about we haven’t seen it. Our friend saw cougar prints when he was out walking Annie the dog while he was looking after her. It spooked him, he said, so he came home again. Soon the moose will be all over the place because we are one of their major wintering areas and they like to come into the village to escape the wolves. At least they think they are going to do that, but last year a moose was killed by a pack of wolves right at the end of the driveway. Blood and hair was everywhere.

My timer from MyCorkboard has just come on telling me it is time to take a break. I have a salmon baking in the oven so I guess I should go and look at it.
